Oncology Massage can:
*Decrease side effects and symptoms
*Provide comfort
*Stimulate the immune response
* Protect affected areas
*Create a sense of well being
Oncology Massage integrates the practitioner’s knowledge of how cancer spreads in the body, the decreased lymphatic flow in areas with affected lymph nodes, and the overall effect on the body of traditional treatments. This knowledge is combined with various body work techniques to create oncology massage. The massage is adjusted to meet the needs of the client currently receiving or who has received chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiation therapy. Restrictions in pressure, site and position are made to accommodate for many factors, including fatigue, low blood counts, lymphedema, surgical and/or radiation sites, fragile skin, and medical devices.
